Training Needs Analysis
June 26, 2007During the summer the Library Unit is going to conduct a training needs analysis for all library staff in the NHS across the West Midlands. Two pilots have already taken place, and attached is the final version of the training needs analysis. The tna is based on the KSF, with a table of training needs related to each of the core dimensions and the optional dimensions related to KSF relevant to library staff. The information that we gather from the TNA will be used to inform and develop the library unit’s learning and development programme for library staff.
Any comments or questions welcomed. Sharon
Job/Library Shadowing
June 19, 2007As discussed at the Learning and Development group meeting, on 5 June. Attached are the packs for the job shadowing scheme. I would really appreciate your feedback on the packs. In particular would you consider:
Instructions – are they clear and do they make sense.
Application forms – are there any questions you would like me to include both for the shadows and hosts application form. Think about what as hosts you would like to know about your possible library shadows, so that you feel confident that as a host you can offer them a worthwhile visit and that you can plan their time with you in the best possible way What would you like potential shadows to know about your service, and can you get that across in the form. It would be great if you tried to fill in host application form, to see if there is anything that doesn’t quite work.
Extending the scheme – are there any issues that jump out at you about extending the scheme to those outside the NHS. For example, I thought I may have to produce a document explaing what a PCT or other terms that we use, to help individuals decide which library service they would want to approach.
Name – it’s always the name isn’t it. Shall we go with Job shadowing or Library shadowing for the name of the scheme? Initially I was going to go with Library shadowing, as I thought that best explained the scheme, and I did change some of the packs to reflect that. Then it ocurred to me that job shadowing might be more familiar than library shadowing, plus that was what the scheme was first called. Any thoughts?
Would people try to leave their comments by 29 June. I would like to re-launch the programme by asking for hosts during the first week of July.
APPLE and Moodle
June 14, 2007The Library Unit launched APPLE onto moodle, an e-learning platofrm in January. Attached is the outline report on the proposed development of APPLE onto Moodle. Hopefully it will give you a good overview of the project, the background, timescales, as well as the functionality of Moodle.
I have set up a moodle showcase on the site but If anyone would like to take a look at one of the units in more detail, then let me know and I can set you up with a moodle login. Please post any comments or questions you’ve got about the project, any feedback is appreciated.
