Keeping up-to-date

You do not need to visit this site to keep up-to-date with the new entries added.  You can instead subscribe to the site’s RSS feed.

What are RSS feeds?

RSS feeds, sometimes called news feeds allow you to see when a website has been updated without having to visit the website.  There is some debate about what RSS stands for but the most popular is “Really Simple Syndication”. Subscribing to RSS feeds means that you can keep up to date with websites that are most relevant to you without having to visit each individual website.  You simply sign into an RSS aggregator account (see below)  and all latest updates to your websites will be there in one place.

How do I subscribe to a RSS feed?

To subscribe to a RSS feed you will first need to subscribe to a RSS aggregator, sometimes called a news reader.  There are many different aggregator’s available, some are stand-alone applications, some are web-based, some are plug-ins to web browsers. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer. The most popular are web based, as these don’t require you to install any software on to your computer. Bloglines is a free a easily accessible one to start with.

I’ve signed up for my RSS aggregator account.  What now?

Once you have an aggregator account you can begin subscribing to RSS feeds.  When you are on a website that interests you, look for the letters RSS on the site. This means that the site or page has the ability to provide you with an RSS feed. Click onto the box and it should give you a URL link which you then can copy into your RSS aggregator.
